This is an evaluation of Nexamp\u2019s community solar offering. (If you are not already\u00a0familiar with community solar, we recommend reading our Introduction to Community Solar<\/a><\/strong> first.)<\/p>\n

How will signing up for the Nexamp community solar offer affect my electric bill?<\/strong><\/p>\n

When you sign up for community solar, you are subscribing to a portion of the project\u2019s monthly output. Nexamp\u00a0 will analyze your household\u2019s energy demand to determine your subscription size.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0Each month, Nexamp\u00a0 will report the output of your subscription to your electric utility, and the utility company will add a credit to your electric bill equal to that output. You will also pay a second monthly bill to Nexamp. Nexamp will bill you for the energy generated by your subscription, with a <\/span>15% discount applied<\/b>. That\u2019s where the savings come in.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0So, rather than paying your electric utility for that clean energy you are paying Nexamp, at a discounted rate. The total amount you save monthly will vary as the solar production of your subscription varies.<\/span><\/p>\n

Example: Say you are currently paying your electric utility 10 cents\/kWh. Through community solar, you will be paying 8.5 cents\/kWh (15% discount on the supply) for any electricity produced by the farm.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

What does CUB think about this offer?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Community solar allows more Illinois consumers to support renewable energy, and CUB is pleased to see more offers hit the market. From reviewing the terms of Nexamp\u2019s offer, we did not see any red flags. Still, we recommend comparing multiple offers and understanding all the terms before signing up for community solar. Always read your contract thoroughly.<\/p>\n

This depends on when the community solar garden you are assigned to is completed. The\u00a0Community Solar Standard Disclosure Form you receive from Nexamp includes the month they\u00a0expect your subscription to go live in the \u201cSubscription Specifications\u201d section. Once you sign up,\u00a0you can also check your customer portal for updates on your project.<\/p>\n

What happens if I move?<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you move within your current utility territory you can take your community solar subscription\u00a0with you. If you move outside of the utility territory, you can assign your subscription to someone\u00a0else. (That person must first properly enroll in the community solar program, including reviewing all\u00a0of the applicable IPA Disclosure forms.) You also can cancel with no penalty by providing proof of\u00a0your move. If you are moving you must give Nexamp 90 days\u2019 written notice. During that period the\u00a0community solar provider will still bill you for the solar produced, and you will still receive bill\u00a0credits if your account is still active.<\/p>\n

Can I sign up for Nexamp\u2019s offer and a real-time pricing program?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Yes, you can participate in Nexamp\u2019s community solar program alongside ComEd\u2019s Hourly Pricing program or Ameren\u2019s Power Smart Pricing plan.<\/span><\/p>\n

How do I sign up?<\/strong><\/p>\n

To enroll in Nexamp\u2019s community solar program, visit Nexamp’s website<\/strong><\/a>. Nexamp also has ILSFA community solar, which are income eligible. You can use <\/span>this tool<\/b><\/a> to see if you qualify. Ameren customers can register for ILSFA community solar through <\/span>Nexamp\u2019s website<\/a><\/strong>. ComEd customers would go through the <\/span>Give-A-Ray program<\/a><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n
