One-time annual grants are given, with no requirement to be paid back, to income-eligible customers, including seniors and veterans. You must apply in person at your local Salvation Army office. Contact your local Salvation Army office or call the general Salvation Army help line at <strong>(773) 205-3570<\/strong> to make an appointment and find out what paperwork is needed.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nicorgas.com\/residential\/billingandpaymentoptions\/bill-payment-assistance\/energy-aide-program.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Energy Aide Program.<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The Nicor Gas Energy Aide Program provides qualifying households with monetary relief for their natural gas bills. Eligibility is based on several factors, including household size and income.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nicorgas.com\/residential\/billingandpaymentoptions\/bill-payment-assistance\/shield-of-caring.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Shield of Caring Program.<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Shield of Caring is an emergency assistance program, it provides individuals and families in Nicor Gas\u2019 service area with natural gas bill payment assistance and support for other basic needs, including housing, rental and grocery assistance.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.northshoregasdelivery.com\/payment-bill\/low-income-discount-program\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Low Income Discount Program<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>.<\/strong> Customers can receive grants as well as be on the Low Income Discount Rate program.<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"2\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nicorgas.com\/residential\/billingandpaymentoptions\/bill-payment-assistance.html#programs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Flexible Payment Arrangements<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>.<\/strong> In addition to energy assistance programs, Nicor Gas offers flexible payment arrangements. Ask friends and neighbors if they know of organizations providing assistance.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Warming and cooling centers are available in state facilities across Illinois. These facilities are safe places to go to stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer. The centers\u2019\u00a0 hours vary by location and are limited to each facility\u2019s regular business hours.
