Far too many people are struggling to afford their utility bills, so it’s important to know the process for applying for the <\/span>Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n According to the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO)<\/strong><\/a>, t<\/span>he LIHEAP application period is October 1, 2025, to August 15, 2026, or until funding is exhausted.<\/p>\n Here are the steps to take if you want to apply for funding:<\/span><\/p>\n 1) Determine if you meet the income-eligibility guidelines. To qualify, your household\u2019s gross income (before taxes) must be at or below 60 percent of the state median income. A copy of your rental agreement (if renting) showing that the heating utility or utilities is\/are included, the monthly rental amount, and landlord contact information.
