The information center is at www.CUBSmartPower.com. Commonwealth Edison (ComEd) is upgrading its aging power grid, including installing 61,000 digital smart meters throughout Aurora. The new meters are wireless and send usage data automatically and more frequently. If used properly, they have the potential to save consumers money. Meter installation in Aurora will begin in August and—most likely—finish in December. “Illinois’ old electricity system is unreliable and expensive, but now it’s going through historic change, and CUB wants to do all it can to make sure consumers aren’t left behind,” CUB Executive Director David Kolata said. “If done right, these improvements can make our electricity more reliable and affordable, and we want consumers to have all the information they need to save money.” The information center features: CUB’s fact sheet, “The five things you need to know about your new electric meter;” Details on energy efficiency incentives, new power-pricing plans and other money-saving opportunities for Illinois consumers; CUB Energy Saver, CUB Energy Saver, a free online tool that recommends actions consumers can take to cut their electric bills by potentially hundreds of dollars a year.
